CHS Schools Concert
Wednesday, 30th November 2011
After months of planning, and weeks of hard work in rehearsals, the second edition of the CHS Schools Concert, took place in the beautiful auditorium of the Performing Arts Centre of St John’s International School in Waterloo.
Choirs, orchestras and bands of the European Schools of Woluwe, Ixelles & Uccle, the International School of Brussels and St John’s took part. Three hundred musicians and singers took part in the joint programme.
The auditorium at St John’s was packed to almost its capacity of 400 and everyone enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the youngsters throughout a programme made up of the following:
Mixed Choir:
Cantique de Jean Racine - Fauré
Earth Song - Frank Tichelli
Until I Found The Lord - arr. André Thomas
Women’s Choir:
Weep No More - David Childs
Jazz:
Fly Me To The Moon - Bart Howard, arr. Jerry Nowak
In The Mood - Joe Garland, arr. Michael Sweeney
Oye Como Va - Tito Puente
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy - Josef Zawinul, arr. Robert Woods
Women’s Choir:
Adiemus (with percussion) - Karl Jenkins
Mixed Choir and Orchestra:
The Lord Is My Shepherd - H. Goodall
Orchestra:
Overture to ‘Nabucco’ - Giuseppe Verdi
Mixed Choir:
West Side Story Medley - Leonard Bernstein, arr. Thomas
Orchestra:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - John Williams, arr. Story
Conductors:
- Norbert Brochhagen
- Eric Delson
- Jan Haan
- Penelope Morgan
- Dorota Pinczuk
- Carolyn Stock-Chapin
- Cathy Swanson
- Steve Wilson
Final figures indicate that more than €18,000 was raised for the CHS Help Line. The Help Line costs about €35,000 per year to run and we get no government support of any kind to help us. Our fund-raising from publications like the CHS Calendar and such events as this concert, plus support from the Lions Club allow us to offer this service to the community.
Thanks ...
We would like to thank Dr. Tom Hawkins and all his staff, particularly Cathy Swanson for the massive support St John’s International School provided for the concert.
A special thank-you too, to the team of music teachers, without whom the concert would not have been possible:

- Dorota Pinczuk of the European School of Uccle
- Cathy Swanson and Lidia Alonso-Cabrera of St John’s
- Norbert Brochhagen of the European School of Ixelles
