Out-going Chair of the Parent Association of the Families of British School of Brussels (FoBSB), Maurits Wesseling, recently gifted the school a number of original pen and ink drawings by a Brussels-based author and illustrator.
The four drawings were part of a collection of works, donated by prize-winning artist Tamar Levi to raise money for Darkness into Light & the Community Help Service (CHS) Helpline. Mr Wesseling’s gift to the school will directly help both these important causes.
The continuous line drawings which explore the emotional challenges and inner strength of teenagers are going to be displayed in the new Counselling Suite at the school. BSB has long been a supporter of CHS and, as Vice-Principal James Johnson explained to the 200 + guests at the recent FoBSB Ball in May, students are made aware of The CHS Helpline number for out of school hours support. Asked why he chose to support CHS through the purchase of these drawings, Mr Wesseling said, “There is a rising need for Mental Health Support, especially for the younger generations for whom expressing their needs is becoming ever more complicated. We all have a responsibility to support those in these situations.”
We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support and solidarity shown by the whole BSB community, and in particular to Maurits and the Families of BSB who have so generously supported us this academic year. We wish everyone at BSB a relaxing and well-earned summer break.
