On May 9, 2026, people across Belgium came together in the quiet hours before dawn for Darkness Into Light, a powerful sunrise walk that shines a light on mental health, suicide prevention, and hope.

This special charity walk began in darkness and ended as the sun rose – a symbol of remembrance, solidarity, and hope for the future. We walk to remember those who have died by suicide, to honour the loved ones they left behind, and most importantly, to support the prevention of suicide and the promotion of mental wellbeing.

In Belgium, Darkness Into Light is proudly partnered with the Community Help Service (CHS) Helpline, a free, confidential, 24/7 listening service that supports thousands of people every year. CHS volunteers are there for those in distress, including people experiencing suicidal thoughts or going through their darkest moments.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of participants and supporters, Darkness Into Light Belgium 2026 looks set to have raised enough funds to keep the CHS Helpline running around the clock for an entire year – a lifesaving impact that continues far beyond the walk itself.

The main Belgian walk took place in Brussels at Parc du Cinquantenaire, where around 500 supporters gathered in solidarity. There were walks in other towns across Belgium at the same time.
