On September 27, CHS held its first ForestMind walk — a beautiful beginning to a new initiative designed especially for our volunteers. The walk offered a gentle, meaningful way to thank and support those who give their time and care so generously to CHS.

ForestMind is a nature-based wellbeing practice that originated in Finland. It blends the quiet immersion of forest bathing with simple mindfulness techniques to help reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and nurture a deep sense of wellbeing. The practice is accessible to all, with guided moments of slow, mindful walking, sensory awareness, and quiet reflection, followed by a short tea break and conversation.

Our first walk took place in the serene Sonian Forest (Zonienwoud), starting from the Hippodrome de Boitsfort. The forest welcomed us with kind weather, vibrant autumn colours, and an atmosphere that invited both stillness and connection. Participants expressed gratitude for the chance to step away from daily routines, slow down, and experience the simple joy of being present — together.

This special initiative was led by Marta Noordhoek, a psychologist at CHS and a valued member of both the clinical directorate and the council. With warmth and care, she created a space where volunteers could pause, reconnect with themselves and nature, and feel supported.

Two more ForestMind walks are planned for this month, the first in Begijnbos on Saturday October 18 and the second a week later in Sonian Forest. We look forward to welcoming more of our volunteers to share in this calm and nurturing experience.
